The Forest PC New Trailer News: Game Early Access Hits Top Seller Steam Games Co-op/Multiplayer Post Release

The Horror-Survival genre has been increasing in popularity as games of said style consistently remain top sellers on Valve's Steam client. As of June 16, early access to The Forest (released May 30) has become the number one top seller listed on the game portal.

Former leaders of the board for weeks running, Day Z and Rust, have fallen out of the top spot, only to be replaced by the new game on the genre block, The Forest. Essentially a mix between the two aforementioned games, the new title, developed by Endnight Games Ltd, focuses on certain key attributes.

Beginning with some background, information about the game on the Steam client reads, "As the lone survivor of a passenger jet crash, you find yourself in a mysterious forest battling to stay alive against a society of cannibalistic mutants. Build, explore, survive in this terrifying first person survival horror simulator."

The Forest incorporates the highly successful building aspects of Rust, stemming from Minecraft, and improves upon them. Adding, the threat of zombie hordes from Day Z, provides reason to fortify and construct a sanctuary and base of operations. The mixture of these two elements falls perfectly in sync with what is drawing gamers to the genre. The retail price, for the currently available, but uncompleted game, runs for $14.99.

The only hindrance to the game's success and longevity of its top spot, results from its not yet available multi-player mode.

However, developers have commented on a potential co-op mode, "Co-op is not planned for the initial release. However adding some form of co-op play will be one of our focuses after the initial release of the game."
