The Blacklist Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: NBC Chair Bob Greenblatt Explains Show Programming, Why Season 2 Split in Half
Filming shows like NBC's The Blacklist requires lengthy shoot sessions and plenty of labor. For this reason, the second season of the popular crime drama series will be split into two parts. Chairman Bob Greenblatt explains the programming design, and what fans can expect when the show returns this Fall.
In an interview with the press last July 13, Greenblatt explained that one episode of The Blacklist requires at least eight days to finish:
"You just do the math, you run out of time to make the show and have post-production time for it. Delivering eight or nine episodes in any fall is really difficult," he added.
Greenblatt also mentoned that the mid season finale has to syncs with the upcoming Super Bowl, "We strategically wanted to use the Super Bowl and the move of the show to Thursday night in order to change the game for us on Thursday, and also open up another time period on Monday," he said.
"Because we couldn't get more episodes in the fall anyway, it only made sense to take it off for that amount of time."
Meanwhile, James Spader and Executive Producers Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath will be joining Comic-Con on July 26 on behalf of the show. The Blacklist Season 2 returns on September 22 with the first nine episodes, while the second half premieres on February 5, 2015.
