‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 8 Production Delayed Due to Contract Negotiation Disputes
According to a report by the BBC, production of the 8th season of the popular TV series 'The Big Bang Theory' has stalled because of a contract disagreement between the actors of the show and the executives of Warner Bros (WBTV) network.
Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), and Johnny Galecki (Leonard) are reportedly demanding $1 million per episode. While Simon Helberg (Howard) and Kunal Nayyar (Raj) are also negotiating in their own terms about a raise in their pay.
The 5 TBBT stars did not report for the first day of production which is supposedly scheduled for script run-throughs.
In an official statement released by WBTV, they said that, "Due to ongoing contract negotiations, production on The Big Bang Theory -- which was originally scheduled to begin today [June 31] -- has been postponed."
Meanwhile, other cast members, namely Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) and Mayim Bialik (Amy) have successfully straightened out their contract with the company, last year. Having already received their pay raise, the two are not part of the current negotiations.
Chuck Lorre, co-creator of the said show, commented that "There are people at Warner Bros. Television and people representing the actors who have done this before. This will work itself out."
"I think it's great; I want them all to be crazy wealthy because nobody deserves it more than this cast. It'll work out," Lorre added.
With the new season, fans should still see the growth and development of their favorite characters, Sheldon, Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, Amy, and Bernadette. Season 8 is scheduled to premiere on September 22, 2014, but with the pressing situation, that date will likely be postponed.
