Three episodes have aired so far in the five episode mini-series, "The Bible" on The History Channel.  

Some of the criticism of the show is that it has been too "dark" and violent.  The angels have been depicted like never before as big and strong warriors.  Many people have always thought of angels floating around with bleach white robes and wings.  The angels in "The Bible" series are tough and rugged, with a roughed up and dirty look as though they just got finished with a battle before they show themselves to people.  

I personally have loved the way that the producers (Mark Burnell, Roma Downey) and directors have brought the angels to the screen.  I believe that the spirit world is a dark and terrifying place, with the fight of good and evil, that we cannot even imagine and that angels get their hands dirty us more than we would ever know.  Thinking of angels as strong warriors fighting for God is a very inspiring thought personally.  

Another criticism of the series is that it is too violent with all of the wars and fight scenes.  It can feel like, when you are getting just highlights of the Old Testament that it is just war after war.  However, when just hitting the highlights, thats really what a lot of it does come down to.  So the directors were just making it as true to form as possible.  Christians are so quick to sugar coat and gloss over things that are ugly and it is good sometimes that we remember the struggle so that it opens our eyes why Jesus came as our Saviour in the first place.  

The violence, with the killings of children especially, is hard to watch at times, but again, they were making it as real as possible.  Clearly, if you were actually there it would've been 100x more violent and gruesome.  But they are telling a story and wanted to keep it as true to the account as possible.  

The Kings and rulers back in those times were absolutely ruthless and when power is your ultimate goal and obsession, it led them to do unspeakable evil.  

It all builds up again to why we are in need of a Saviour and am grateful that the makers of "The Bible" mini-series went to such lengths to give us an authentic, first hand view of the troubles facing the people in those times.   

I personally do not think the series has been "too" violent, but just as accurate as possible.  I appreciate their willingness to not "sugar coat" the stories more then they had to just to keep it still family friendly.  I applaud them and their efforts.
