'The Bible' on History Channel is 'Worse Than Reality Television" According to Critics

All good things must come to an end. If you've been watching The Bible, History Channel's new epic miniseries, then I regret to inform you the finale episode is airing this Easter Sunday.

Though The Bible has been watched by over 70 million viewers (including encore presentations on Lifetime), critical reception has not treated the Mark Burnett show very well.

The ever-skeptical secular press wasted no time after episode 3 of The Bible, comparing Satan to President Barack Obama, accusing the Survivor creatorand his co-producer wife Roma Downey (Touched By An Angel) of political deviancy.

History Channel responded with this statement:

"History channel has the highest respect for President Obama. The series was produced with an international and diverse cast of respected actors. It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. History's 'The Bible' is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history," the network said Monday following the episode.

Former FOX News TV host Glenn Beck, a self-proclaimed Christian, took to Twitter to add his two cents:

"Anyone else think the Devil in ?The Bible Sunday on History Channel looks exactly like That Guy?" Beck tweeted along with a picture of actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni in costume.

According to the Internet, The Bible is "worse than reality television." Trending news site DessertNews wrote:

"Faith-based programming is entirely absent from network television, and movies that don't treat religious people as hypocrites or human punch lines seem to rarely make their way into the local cinema."

Though the show does reek a bit of right wing correctedness, I can honestly say I learned a lot from watching The Bible. As a person not 100% familiar with the sacred text, The Bible has encouraged me...well, to read the Bible!

Tune in this Sunday for the Easter Sunday finale of The Bible at 8/7c on History Channel. Episode 5 will feature the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ.
