Will "The Bible" Miniseries Finale on The History Channel Be Better Than "The Passion of The Christ"?
Before "The Bible" series came out this month and blew everyone away with it's ratings and production value, the standard had been set by Mel Gibson's release of "The Passion of The Christ" back in 2004. This movie was by far the most professional and realistic few of Jesus final days. "The Passion of The Christ" did great in the box office as well (over $600 millon wow!) with churches and Christian organizations promoting it and getting people to the theaters. So really it should be no surprise that "The Bible" series has received such high ratings since the entertainment industry has seen it happen before with Mel Gibson's film.
Now obviously "The Bible" series has spanned a overview of the whole bible from Genesis to Jesus at this point and it has been doing exceptionally well. But the final episode airing this Easer Sunday entitled, "Passion", will be mostly taken up by Jesus trial, beating, crucifixion and resurrection.
So it begs the question, as good as producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have done on episode one through four, will episode #5 compare with "The Passion of The Christ"?
"The Passion of The Christ" was obviously controversial for being released as a rated R movie due to the graphic nature of the violence. This made the movie extremely hard to watch, as seeing the reality of someone practically beaten to death and crucified is not something that you normally sit through. On top of that, this man was innocent of a crime and if you were a Christian watching, you were watching your Saviour literally dying for you (on film).
The cinematography of "The Passion of The Christ" gave us views and angles that we had not seen before and gives big shoes to fill for "The Bible" season finale.
"The Bible" has had spectacular cinematography as well and the way they have portrayed the characters of the bible has made them feel more real then ever before. So I believe the final episode will be no different. Everyone involved in this movie knows that the climax and the point of the whole story is the death and resurrection of Jesus, so I have full faith that they will make it as real and authentic as possible, while still keeping it family friendly since it is a TV series.
What is your feeling? Did you enjoy "The Passion of The Christ"? Do you think "The Bible" finale will do an even better job of portraying Jesus final days?
