Texan's Coach Gary Kubiak Collapsed on Sunday Night Football: Colts go on to Beat Texans in Second Half [VIDEO]
Texan's coach Gary Kubiak collapsed on the sidelines of Sunday Night Football in Houston last night as his team was entering the locker for halftime. Reporters from the sideline said that he looked like he was in intense pain, but he was talking and never lost consciousness. The Texans had a decisive lead at halftime over the Colts, thanks in part to Case Keenum, a rookie who came off the sidelines to replace Matt Schaub as quarterback. He torched the Indianapolis defense during the first half and threw two touchdowns to Andre Johnson.
Wade Phillips acted as head coach for the Texans during the second half. He said, "There was a lot of unknown. Everything was unknown as to what was going on and what happened to Kub. Rick Dennison obviously called the plays from the press box. We had to adjust as far as the head coach not being there. But it was a shock to everybody."
Gary Kubiak had no known health issues before the event last night, but many are saying that coaches in the NFL should get mandatory, routine check ups due to the high stress nature of the job.
Kubiak's representative told the press that he was doing well in the hospital and that they were running a series of tests just to make sure he was healthy. Defensive player J.J. Watt for the Texans said, "Obviously, our thoughts are with our head coach right now. That's a completely different situation, a completely independent situation. That's a real-life situation right there."
