Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie 2014 Poster: Paramount Pictures Apologize for Image that Resembles 9/11 Tragedy (VIDEO)

Paramount Pictures has recently apologized for a new movie poster released for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, that depicts the protagonists jumping out of an exploding building that resembles those of the 9/11 tragedy.

"We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia. Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offense and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use," said the film company in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Previously, Paramount used social media to promote the controversial movie poster regarding the film's upcoming release in the "Land Down Under."

"Check out the official poster for #TMNT in cinemas September 11," wrote Paramount Australia on Twitter and Facebook recently.

As a result, people felt the notorious poster was very offensive since the Australian release date will ironically occur on the 13th anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy on September 11, 2001, a day that took thousands of innocent lives.

"How does this make it past marketing? Ninja turtles poster invokes 9/11 attack: http://usat.ly/1nQAnzM," wrote Twitter user Jessica Durando on July 29.

Another Twitter user agreed with Durando's viewpoint and issued the following statement:

"How did this #TMNT poster get approved? There were so many chances to say NO. Poster invokes 9/11...," tweeted Korina Lopez on Tuesday.

However, some people think the polarizing film poster and Australian release date are merely coincidental to the worst terrorist attack in American history.

"I get that 9/11 was a horrible event, but I don't really find this that bad? People are just looking for it...," wrote Skulburn on Twitter.

The upcoming film stars Megan Fox (April O'Neil), Will Arnett (Vern Fenwick), Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), Alan Ritchson (Raphael), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo), Jeremy Howard (Donatello) and "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg as Bernadette Thompson.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot debuts in American theaters on August 8.
