Taylor Swift, age 25, whose most recent hit 'Shake It Off' debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week ending September 6, 2014, is standing by her decision to take her music off Spotify amidst criticism from Zayn Malik, who praised Miley Cyrus for releasing her next album for free.

Zayn Malik, age 22, recently retweeted a post comparing how differently Taylor and Cyrus shared their music with their fans:

Swift was backed by her boyfriend Calvin Harris, age 31, who said that she was using her stardom to benefit musicians and songwriters who haven't made it as big in the industry.

Harris' support of Swift's decision was joined by many fans and fellow musicians on social media who thanked and praised Swift for speaking out for those artists who earn a living with their music and can't afford to give it away for free.

Swift herself declined to release her own statement in response to the criticism. Instead, she favorited some of the tweets that defended her position, including some from James McVey of The Vamps:

"Sure, artists who have 'made it' and are 'happy' may be fine with giving away music for free. But they either don't remember [or] never had to fight for a chance in the industry and therefore don't understand."

McVey goes on to tweet: "15 year old me would have thanked Taylor Swift today for making a stand and speaking out for unsigned artists."

Harris' defence of Swift, however, turned into a Twitter war between himself and Malik when they started trading vicious comebacks at each other. The feud seemed to die down after Harris acknowledged one of Malik's tweets with "lol" and called a truce with:

"@zaynmalik all good, it was the quote, not you personally mate... best of luck, genuinely. You've got a great voice."

The feud between the two may have been a bit of a downer, but it has brought Swift and Harris closer together, and Swift was shown to be able to shake it off.
