Taylor Swift News: Bashed by New Yorkers for being NYC's ‘Global Welcome Ambassador’

Some New Yorkers seem to be displeased with their new "Global Welcome Ambassador" in the face of pop sensation Taylor Swift.

Immediately after New York's tourism agency announced on Monday that the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer was the new face of the Big Apple, some New Yorkers became upset that an "out-of-towner" was chosen as the city's promotional face.

NYC and Co. revealed its new ambassador with a video showing Swift talking about words that are exclusive to New York, like the correct pronunciation of "Houston Street" or the iconic New York "stoop."

Swift is a Pennsylvania-born, Tennessee-raised singer currently residing in Tribeca, NY and is always present in Manhattan.

"We couldn't have asked for a better synergy between Taylor and NYC & Company to tell our story about what makes New York City, New York City," said NYC and Co. president Fred Dixon in a statement.

However, several New Yorkers are appalled and "insulted" by the decision.

Queens-born Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snider argues, "She doesn't have any life experience here, or connection to the town."

According to the report, Swift doesn't live in a "fifth-floor walk-up co-signed by her parents," as New Yorkers are known for, but a $20 million penthouse.

Others argue that Swift is not a native of New York and sees little of the city "but the four steps from that stoop to her waiting SUV, and four steps from that SUV to her Bowery gym."

Furthermore, New York guide and owner of Big Onion Tours Seth Kamil threw a question at Swift, "Is she gonna ride the subway? Is she going to go to Queens?"

Some have been surprised that Swift was chosen over homegrown artists like Jay Z and Alicia Keys, or Jay-Z or Nicki Minaj.

"It's all about who's gonna get the most positive news coverage for New York, not who's the most worthy," Snider stated.
