Taylor Swift New Album News: 'Shake It Off' Singer's '1989' New Pop Album Delights Fans
Taylor Swift's new album, 1989, was released on October 27 - and is already on its way to selling a million copies. It is her fifth album and her "first documented, official pop album," which makes it a departure from earlier, country pop works. The title refers to the year of her birth.
"Shake It Off" was released as the lead single on August 18, and it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making it Swift's second number one single in the country.
"Out of the Woods" was released on October 14 as a promotional single. It has been favorably received by music critics. Swift herself has called the song "one of my favorite songs on the album."
She added that "This song is about the fragility and kind of breakable nature of some relationships". Another promotional single, "Welcome to New York" was released on October 20.
In an interview with Kiss FM, Swift explained that she chose the title because she had been inspired by the music of the late 80's.
"I have a few artists in the late eighties who I think made the most incredible, bold, risky decisions as far as pop music goes. They were really ahead of their time, like Annie Lennox and what Madonna was doing in the late eighties. 'Like a Prayer' is legitimately one of the greatest pop songs of all time."
