Fans began to assume that Taylor Swift and John Mayer were getting back together when the two were spotted at Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood on September 21. However, that is not the case, as reports claim that the artists will remain broken up.

The two left in separate cars so that's definitely a sign that they are not together again. Also, an insider told TMZ, that Swift and Mayer saw each other, but did not speak a word, not even a formal greeting.

Swift's rep immediately denied the dating allegations to E! News and said that the two did not eat dinner together. They were just at the same place at the same time.

After the couple broke up, Swift immediately made a song about him called, "Dear John." The song is about a man named John allegedly messed up an innocent girl.

The song's lyrics include, "I'm shining like fireworks / Over your sad empty town." This is said to be a reference to how glowing Swift was when she visited Fairfield, Connecticut for seven nights, according to Vanity Fair.

The song seemed to be effective because Mayer actually spoke about it. He told Rolling Stone that he was "really humiliated" by the song. "It made me feel terrible," he told the magazine.

"Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do," he added.

The lyrics also said, "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?" she sang. "Dear John/ I see it all now that you're gone," she continued, "Don't you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I shouldn't known."

Swift and Mayer had a previously collaborated for the song, "Half of my Heart."
