Following their Vice Verses Tour in 2012, the San Diego-based alternative rock group Switchfoot has been hard at work on an upcoming film/documentary called Fading West, which will be accompanied by an album release with the same name later this year.
According to Billboard, the group's frontman, Jon Foreman, promises that Switchfoot fans will get a different perspective on the band from the film. In an interview with Billboard, Foreman said that, "Our goal was always to be professional surfers - and I'm only partially kidding when I say that - and if nobody is gonna make a movie about us, let's do it ourselves. We love surfing, so this was kind of a chance to introduce that to the rest of the world and maybe connect a few of the dots to the music as well."
The film will feature a behind-the-scenes look at the band and their surfing destinations. A sneak peek of the film will be shown at the band's 9th Annual Bro-am surfing contest and concert, which takes place June 12-13 in Encinitas, CA. Bro-Am also features a charity auction and a full-scale performance by Switchfoot.
Bro-Am was created by Switchfoot to give back to the San Diego community, while benefiting local children's charities through funds raised at the pre-event auction night soiree, among others. Till today's date, the event has raised more than $715,000 for children's charities based in San Diego, according to the band's website.
The film will be released by lowercase people records under exclusive license to Atlantic Records, and is to be released this Summer. The album of the same name, which according to the band may feature some of the film's soundtrack, is slated for release in September, 2013.
Earlier, in January this year, Switchfoot released this film-teaser on their official website:
