Surface Mini Release Date, Price and Specs: Limited Suppy Gadget In Time For Christmas

The launch of the Surface Pro 3 and Windows 10 back in May came with no news of the Surface Mini. However, new rumors are claiming that Microsoft Surface Mini will allegedly arrive in a limited supply this Christmas.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Executive Vice President Stephen Elop reportedly cancelled the project because they doubted its success since the Surface Mini "wasn't different enough" from the competition, according to a Bloomberg report.

Microsoft Surface tablets are arguably not as popular as the other tablets on the market today.

Microsoft Surface received just 1.3 percent share of the market in the first quarter, compared to smaller tablets contributing 53 percent of the company's sales during the same time.

However, the Surface Mini is rumored to make a comeback this year. Unlike any other tablet out there, Microsoft Surface tablets offer a functional PC with Windows 8 features in one handy device.

Microsoft was said to launch the Surface Mini this year with a 7-inch display with an Intel processor operating on Windows 8.

The Surface Mini was also rumored to come with an integral digital pen, and can work as a tablet or a PC with a separate display, mouse and keyboard.

Although there is still no news regarding the release date of the Surface Mini, TK Tech News reported that the device could potentially come around Christmas, but in a limited supply.

Neowin contributor Brad Sams reportedly got a hold of the new device, which is similar to the larger Surface tablets, and said that it "looks like a smaller version of the Surface Pro 3."

Aside from that, Sams stated that the Surface Mini is a "compact, easy to carry and highly functional tablet."

"The bezel size is large enough to have a full size Windows button, exactly like the Pro 3 at the bottom, at the top, there is a front facing camera with roughly the same size as the bezel," he added.

He stated that the device will come in an 8-inch display powered by a Qualcomm processor, Windows RT 8.1, 1 GB RAM and support USB and microSD.
