'Supergirl' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: Floriana Lima To Join Cast of Next Series

Floriana Lima is now a series regular in "Supergirl" season 2.

The superhero drama which originally aired on CBS but is now on The CW has reserved a role for Floriana Lima for its 2nd season. She will play Maggie Sawyer, a lesbian detective at the National City Police Department who has a special interest in aliens.

In 1987, her character was introduced by creator John Byme as a captain of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit. In the comics, she was portrayed as a highly adept member of the Science Police, which focuses on Metahumans or people with super powers.

The comics later on revealed that she was a lesbian, making her among the first lesbian characters in a comic. Her character also appears in other DC Comics, and is sometimes even portrayed as the love interest of Batwoman.

Maggie Sawyer also appeared in Smallville, played by Jill Teed.

Fans expect that the entry of a sharp and strong lesbian character in the series will make "Supergirl" season 2 a more meaningful and exciting one.

Before she was given the role in the upcoming DC series, Floriana Lima appeared on NBC's "Alliegiance," Fox's "The Mob Doctor" and "Poor Paul."

Aside from her, another addition to the "Supergirl" season 2 cast is Tyler Hoechlin of "Teen Wolf," who will play the role of the iconic Superman. Former Wonderwoman Lynda Carter is also expected to be elected as the new President of the United States.

"Supergirl" season 2 airs on October 10, 8:00 P.M. on The CW.
