'Supergirl' New Series News: Upcoming Superhero Show Officially Ordered By CBS
'Supergirl' has officially been ordered as a full series by CBS, and will undergo production throughout the 2015-2016 year.
Greg Berlanti will be producing the series, making it his third DC property that he's brought to television, counting 'The Flash' and 'Arrow.'
'Supergirl' will star Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, and will follow the more obscure lineage of Superman's cousin. It hasn't been confirmed yet if that character will actually be making an appearance. This series will also largely focus on Supergirl adjusting to life on Earth while keeping her superpowers a secret.
"The ensemble cast is rounded out by regulars Calista Flockhart, who will play Kara's tough boss at CatCo, Cat Grant; Mehcad Brooks, who will co-star as Kara's love interest, Jimmy Olsen; Chyler Leigh, as Kara's doctor sister, Alex Danvers; and David Harewood, as supervillain Hank Henshaw, known as Cyborg Superman in the DC world. Laura Benanti will play Kara's birth mother, Alura Zor-El, in a major recurring arc," writes Variety.
While it was rumored that the show would be making its way to the CW, much like Berlanti's other DC series, it was later confirmed to be going to CBS in an attempt for them to expand their audience.
It is also suspected that the show might share a universe with 'The Flash' and 'Arrow,' much like the two shows do already. This has yet to be confirmed.
As it stands, a release date for the series has not yet been announced.
