'Supergirl' New Cast News: CBS Series to Feature Chyler Leigh and David Harewood

Two more people have been chosen to star in CBS's highly anticipated superhero show "Supergirl," 32-year-old Chyler Leigh will play Alex Danvers - Alex is Kara Zor-El's (Supergirl) foster sister, and 49-year-old actor David Harewood will play villain Hank Henshaw, or Cyborg Superman in the DC comics.

Leigh is most known for her role as Dr. Lexie Grey in ABC's hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy." She is currently plays Detective Caitlyn Sullivan in action-comedy police series "Taxi Brooklyn." Harewood is most known for his roles in films "Homeland" and "Blood Diamond." He played Sam Saperstein in "Selfie" before it was canceled.

According to the Daily News also staring in the new superhero show is Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, Mechad Brooks as love interest Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti as Supergirl's biological mother Alura Zor-El and Calista Flockhart as Supergirl's boss Cat Grant.

"Supergirl" follows the story of Superman's cousin, Kara. The pilot episode will supposedly tell her origin story and will have 24-year-old Kara come to grips with reality that she needs to help save the world and not hide her true self.

In an interview with CBR, Benoist said of her role as Supergirl, "She is such a relatable character, amongst her powers. What I'm the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that's something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives."

According to Variety, the shows pilot was co-written and exec produced by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler. Berlanti is most known for his work on superhero shows "Arrow" and "The Flash." Adler works on shows "Glee" and "The New Normal."

The pilot episode of "Supergirl" is set to air on CBS sometime this year.
