Super Smash Bros 4 Characters: Pic of the Day Unveils New Fire Emblem Fighters; Marth, Lucina, Robin, and Ike Added to Roster (PICTURES)

Super Smash Bros 4 is starting to become an outlet for Nintendo franchise Fire Emblem as they have four characters and a number of other features from the series in the game.

Yesterday game developer Masahiro Sakurai unveiled three new characters, the longstanding Captain Falcon, and Fire Emblem's Lucina and Robin. There was also a hint at the game's character Chrom being an Assist Trophy or part of a Final Smash attack.

Lucina and Robin join their fellow Fire Emblem players, Marth and Ike. The second installment of SSB, Melee, had Marth and Roy, and was the first to introduce the franchise to these fighters. It is likely Roy will not be returning as he was not in Brawl.

Fire Emblem is a flagship brand of Nintendo that was exclusively only in Japan for the 90s. It was not until the early 2000s that they ported over a few games for the Game Boy Advance. From there the game traveled to Gamecube, Wii, and now the 3DS. The game's proved so popular that their inclusion to the SSB universe has definitely been welcomed by gamers.

Several images have been posted to the Miiverse Pic of the Day, the first being of new character Robin.

"Pic of the day. Robin, the avatar in Fire Emblem Awakening, joins the battle!! As a master of tomes and the Levin sword, Robin's not like any other swordfighter. You can also select Robin's gender when you play," wrote Sakurai. See the image here.

Today's Pic of the Day features Lucina, who has a similar move set to Marth, much like Roy did for the Gamecube.

"Pic of the day. Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth," wrote Sakurai. See the image here.

He continued, "With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually." See the image here.

Lastly he wrote about a special feature in her design. "By the way"¦there's probably no chance you'll be able to see this in the game, but Lucina has the mark of Naga in her left eye." See that image here.

The game's release date for the 3DS was revealed as October 3, which was a push back from its original July launch. The Wii U version is still unconfirmed, but it is anticipated for the holiday season.
