Recently Super Smash Bros 4 game director Masahiro Sakurai announced a new female character would be joining the fray of the chaotic fighting game, a female Animal Crossing character.

"Pic of the day, you can choose to play as the girl villager too! How lovely," he said in the Nintendo Miiverse. In the picture the male and female Animal Crossing characters are seen standing with another boy and girl, presumably game Assist Trophies. See the picture here.

Although the character is not completely new, and most likely just an alternative skin of the male character that was announced last year, Sakurai is giving gamers plenty of options.

Yesterday's Pic of the Day featured Little Mac all hulked up and ready to attack Pikmin's Olimar.

"Under certain circumstances, the creatures on this planet appear to grow larger and go berserk. The Pikmin and I must be cautious lest we lose our heads to these beasts," wrote game developer Masahiro Sakurai in the Nintendo Miiverse.

The characters that are confirmed for the game so far are: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Zelda, the Villager, King Dedede, Lucario, Little Mac, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, Greninja, Charizard, Shiek, and Yoshi.

The game will launch this summer for the 3DS and in the winter for the Wii U.
