Super Smash Bros 4 Release Date Revealed at Today's Nintendo Direct? Sakurai Promises 'It'll be Worth the Wait' (PICTURE)

Today's Super Smash Bros 4 Pic of the Day is serving a different purpose, to remind viewers to tune into tonight's Nintendo Direct to see a whole episode dedicated to the upcoming game.

With such a huge show expected, it seems evident that the game's release date will finally be revealed today for the Wii U and 3DS.

"Pic of the day, and a very important announcement. On 4/8, at 3 PM PST (8/4 11 PM UK time), we'll be airing a Super Smash Bros. Direct!!" wrote game developer Masahiro Sakurai in the Nintendo Miiverse. "There will be all kinds of info about the new Smash Bros. games on this simultaneous global stream that will be delivered 'directly' to you, so don't miss it! It's airing at a really late time for some of you, but it'll probably be worth the wait. You can watch the stream from the official site (www.smashbros.com)." See the image here.

In yesterday's installment of Super Smash Bros 4's Pic of the Day, a new Metroid inspired assist trophy was showed off.

"Pic of the day. An insatiable, unidentified extraterrestrial is targeting a certain peaceful town"¦!" wrote Masahiro Sakurai to the Nintendo Miiverse in the caption of the picture. See the image here.

In the picture a giant Metroid alien is seen in the sky and is coming down to what seems like an Earthbound inspired level, also suggesting an appearance by Ness.

The characters confirmed for the game so far are: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Zelda, the Villager, King Dedede, Lucario, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong.

The game will be released on the Wii U and 3DS.
