Super Smash Bros 4 3DS Release Date Revealed by Nintendo for October 3; Pic of the Day Shows 'New Super Mario Bros. 2' Stage (PICTURES)

Super Smash Bros 4's 3DS release date was revealed today by Nintendo at the E3 Conference. It is expected to arrive on October 3, which is a push back from the initial July prediction.

Today's SSB4 Pic of the Day revealed a new Mario inspired level filled with coins for the 3DS.

"New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a game where you collect tons of coins. Thus, it's only natural that many coins will appear in this stage"¦ Wait, is this really Super Smash Bros??" wrote game developer Masahiro Sakurai in the Nintendo Miiverse.

The picture shows Samus, Luigi, and what appears to be Link at various points in the stage. See it here.

"If you collect 100 coins, you transform into a gold fighter! For a short period of time, your attack power will increase and you won't flinch when you receive attacks. This unique stage's name is Golden Plains and it's exclusive to the 3DS version," continued Sakurai in his post. The next image shows a gold and sparkling Samus. See it here.

Yesterday, Sakurai showed off a Pokemon Assist Trophy for Meloetta. "Remember the video that introduced Greninja joining the battle? Every Pokémon that appeared in that video will make some kind of appearance in Super Smash Bros! By the way, here's one of the Pokémon that didn't make an appearance in that video--Meloetta. Its vocal attacks reflect off land forms, so they'll be especially effective in a closed environment," he wrote.

In the picture Meloetta is seen blasting its vocal attacks in the form of musical notes. See the image here.

The characters confirmed for the game so far are: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Zelda, the Villager, King Dedede, Lucario, Little Mac, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, Greninja, Charizard, Shiek, Yoshi, and now Ike.

The game will launch this summer for the 3DS and in the winter for the Wii U.
