In today's Super Smash Bros 4 Pic of the Day, Mario and Link showcase the game's new swords and mechanics for how they function.

"Pic of the day. For the first time in the Smash series, Beam Swords will feature graduated colors. The attack item on the left is the Fire Bar. This is a peculiar weapon that becomes shorter after each swing," wrote game director Masahiro Sakurai in the Nintendo Miiverse. See the image here.

In the picture Mario is seen using the new Fire Bar sword, and Link can be seen duel wielding his sword and the Beam Sword. They are standing in the middle of the Smash Arena.

Friday's SSB4 Pic of the Day featured Diddy Kong and Yoshi, two lovable Nintendo sidekicks. They battling with each other as an Animal Crossing Assist Trophy stood between them.

"Pic of the day. The 3DS version will have roughly the same types of Assist Trophies and Pokémon. Just roughly"¦" wrote Sakurai in the Nintendo Miiverse. See the image here.

The characters confirmed for the game so far are: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina, Zelda, the Villager, King Dedede, Lucario, Little Mac, Diddy Kong, Zero Suit Samus, Greninja, Charizard, Shiek, and Yoshi.

The game will launch this summer for the 3DS and in the winter for the Wii U.
