Summer Jam XX Boasts Biggest Lineup Ever, As Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Rick Ross, and More Take The Stage
Summer Jam XX proved to be the biggest yet for artists and for hosting radio station Hot 97 in New York. It has boasted a mix of young rappers, respected veterans, and a few surprises.
Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Lil Kim were among the guest stars of Sunday's Summer Jam XX. The concert was at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky and French Montana also performed, as did Wu-Tang Clan, although the younger audience didn't seem to quite get it.
French Montana closed the five-hour concert with fellow rap and R&B artists Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. They performed the hit single, "Pop That," as the crowd (predictably) went crazy. Montana was not the only one to bring out guests to help with their set. Minaj joined 2 Chainz, Fabolous brought out fellow Brooklynite Lil Kim, and R&B singer Miguel brought out J. Cole and Mariah Carey.
Hot 97 was celebrating their 20th Summer Jam, but the day belonged to the youngsters of rap. Hip-hop's new class kept the crowd going, performing the well-known hits that have been dominating the charts for the last year.
Kendrick Lamar, who has enjoyed the most critical success of this new class, was the best of this new breed. He performed selections from his much-lauded album, "good kid, m.A.A.d city," including "Poetic Justice" and "(Expletive), Don't Kill My Vibe."
