Stevie Wonder Boycotts Florida Over 'Stand Your Ground' Laws

Stevie Wonder was among the many who were confused and outraged over the Trayvon Martin & George Zimmerman case in Florida.

Zimmerman shot and killer Trayvon Martin claiming self defense and was this week found not guilty on second degree murder charges, largely due to the 'stand your ground' laws in Florida.

Wonder has made a vow not to perform in the state of Florida until the 'stand your ground' laws are repealed.

Stevie said this about his feelings at a concert he was performing in Quebec on Sunday night, "I decided today that until the 'stand your ground' law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again. As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."

Unfortunately for Wonder, if he does stick to his vow, this will knock 22 states currently off of his available play list, as 22 states have different variations of the law, including his home state of Michigan.

The 'Stand Your Ground' law permits the use of deadly force anywhere as long as a person is not engaged in an unlawful activity, is being attacked in a place he has a right to be and reasonably believes that his life and safety are in danger as a result of an overt act or perceived threat committed by someone else.

Back in the 1980's, Wonder joined other artists in not playing at South Africa's Sun City resort which kept the minority white population in control of the majority black nation.
