Steam's Summer Sale has started, Top Picks for Gamers and Advice on how to Spend Wisely (Steam Powered, steampowered.com)

Yesterday marked a momentous day in nerd history: Steam's highly anticipated summer sales have hit the market. You may have been one of the early-to-the-gates gamer that was profoundly frustrated with computer glitches. Although virtual, it was like a mad stampede on steroids, leaving the server a bit blindsided by traffic. But alas, all is well, and the popular gaming website is ready to take on the new flood of traffic.

Each day between now and July 22 a "Daily Deal" ticker at the front of the page shows favorites on a special sale, but most of the store is on sale to some degree through the 22. Its a Russian Roulete, as the ticker changes each day, and the ticker sale has not leaked yet. Our word of advice: go ahead and fork out the extra 25% to buy your favorite on 'regular' sale instead of waiting for it to kick into 'super' sale on the Daily Deal ticker; there is no predicting when it will show up.

Make a plan. Do not go in there with a few hundred bucks and no game plan (punny moment). You'll end up spending double, and coming away with games you might never get around to. This is the time for your inner fantasy to come out, and cash in big on the game you've been waiting for for ages, not splurge on stuff you haven't researched or anticipated.

Here are out top 3 picks for games to scoop up while time remains on the clock through July 22.

Its perfect for extended play, as it takes weeks to conquer the game.
