Starz New TV Series 2014: 'Ash vs. Evil Dead' is Based on Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead’; Bruce Campbell Cast for Lead Role

Starz has given a greenlight to the production of an original series called 'Ash vs. Evil Dead', which will serve as a sequel to the 1981 film 'The Evil Dead', starring Bruce Campbell.

Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, a stock boy who doubles as a "chainsaw-handed monster hunter" who, for the last 30 years, has avoided the responsibility of the Evil Dead.

Aside from Campbell, 'Evil Dead' producer Rob Tapert and director Sam Raimi, will also be returning to create the new and original 10-episode half-hour series, which is scheduled to be released in 2015.

The storyline will follow the story of Ash, as he returns to his monster hunting duties. After years of running from his responsibility, a Deadite plague will come to threaten the world, which will ultimately force Ash to face his demons.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Raimi is set to direct and co-write the pilot episode of the series, together with Tom Speizialy and his brother Ivan.

Campbell, Tapert, and Raimi will be among the executive producers of the series. Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik said the network has already worked with Raimi and Tapert on 'Spartacus', and they were "thrilled to be back in business with them."

Additionally, Zlotnik said that with the partnership of Raimi and Tapert as the director and producer, fans of the 'Evil Dead' across the globe will surely get what they have been hoping for.

Meanwhile, when asked about the series, Raimi said he, along with Campbell and Tapert, are "thrilled to be given the chance" to tell the next chapter in the "lame but heroic" story of Ash.

Raimi added that the audience will again have the chance to see Ash kick some major monster butt with his "chainsaw arm and 'broomstick.'"
