'Star Wars VII' Title Confirmed, Latest News: Upcoming Movie Officially Labeled 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Disney has finally confirmed that the official name of director J.J. Abrams' upcoming 'Star Wars VII' film will be called 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. The announcement was made via Twitter and many sources, including the Verge and the Hollywood Reporter, think that the name is not only simple, but "endlessly exciting" too.

In a recent report the Hollywood Reporter mentioned, 'The Force Awakens' isn't any "less confusing or meaningless" than 'The Phantom Menace' or 'A New Hope'. According to the report, the new name 'The Force Awakens' is not surprising, considering the fact that the writer-director of the film Abrams has already clarified that the new trilogy will heavily depend on the original three 'Star Wars' movies.

While the title of the upcoming film is definitely very exciting and simple, it has also generated plenty of speculation among the fans as well as others regarding the storyline of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. Since there are hardly any details available regarding the film's plot, many have been wondering what the title means.

According to a recent report in Entertainment Weekly, the original trilogy featured the "Force", both light side and dark side, extensively. Fans still remember how Luke lifted a giant X-Wing fighter out of Yoda's swamp, while Darth Vader was strangling people from across the room.

In fact, it was expected that Luke Skywalker would help to restore balance to the "Force". Perhaps, this will happen in the new film, which takes place 30 years after 'Return of the Jedi'. It is expected that the new movie will focus on Luke's journey to make the "Force" a great power once again, which it was in the prequel trilogy.

Most of the original cast members, including Mark Hamil (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) will be reprising their roles in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'. Hence, it is expected that the storyline of the film will focus on them.

Disney also confirmed that most of the filming has been completed, but there's still plenty of post-production work left to do. In fact, it is also reported that the cast of 'The Force Awakens' also attended a wrap party at London's Science Museum early this month.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
