'Star Wars' Episode 8 and 9 Release Date Rumors: New Films Have New Cast Members and Producers
While 'Star Wars: Episode VII' is still in its production phase, Walt Disney Studios and LucasFilm are reportedly negotiating for two subsequent 'Star Wars' installments.
According to recently published reports, 'Episode VII' director J.J. Abrams might be in danger of losing his future position as the 'Star Wars' director as reports claim that Disney is already involved in talks with director Rian Johnson of 'Looper' to head the blockbuster franchise's next two films.
However, rumors about the directorial swap have not been confirmed, and remain inconsistent many other reports. Other sources say Rian Johnson will be working on the 'Star Wars' Episode 8 and 9 films as a writer, and not as a director.
Additionally, recent spoilers for the blockbuster 'Star Wars' film series have hinted that original casts Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will no longer take part in the remaining sequels. Instead of Ford and Fisher, new cast members will be taking over the role in the future additions to the film franchise.
Former indie director, Ram Bergman, who also wrote and directed 'Looper', is rumored to be producing 'Star Wars' Episode 8 and 9 alongside Johnson.
Beyond that, unnamed spin-offs to the 'Star Wars' saga have recently been confirmed by Disney studios, and are currently lined up for a December 16, 2016 premiere. The spin-offs will allegedly be directed by Josh Trank of 'Fantastic Four' and Gareth Edwards of 'Godzilla'.
Although Disney is reportedly in talks about 'Star Wars' 8 and its production, the movie giant is yet to announce the official release date for the upcoming film.
