Star Wars Episode 7 Cast News, Plot Rumors, Update: 12 Years a Slave's Lupita Nyong'o Meets With JJ Abrams for Role

Fresh off her Academy Award victory for Best Supporting Actress, Lupita Nyong'o has now joined the "Star Wars Episode 7" rumor mill.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyong'o had met with director J.J. Abrams about possibly playing as the daughter of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in the upcoming film.

The news adds the "12 Years a Slave" actress to a list of major actors and actresses who have been linked to the "Star Wars Episode 7" film. On March 13, Variety claims that Jesse Plemons, John Boyega, Ed Speleers, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher were all on Abrams' list to play the male lead in the upcoming "Star Wars" movie.

"Girls" star Adam Driver has been linked to the film as a possible villain in the mold of Darth Vader. Other actors who were also alleged to have roles in the movie at some time or another includes Nyong'o's "12 Years a Slave" co-star Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Gary Oldman, Alex Pettyfer, Saoirse Ronan and Michael B. Jordan.

Nyong'o will appear in a movie starring "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" star Liam Neeson titled "Non-Stop" in February in a minor supporting role. It's expected that production for "Star Wars Episode 7" will begin in the spring.

Previously, Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia confirmed the return of her "Star Wars" co-stars Mark Hamill as Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. The film will reportedly center around the legendary original trio rather than their offspring as it was formerly rumored.

"Star Wars Episode 7" is set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2015.
