Star Wars Episode 7 Movie Cast News Update: JJ Abrams Gives Fans Rare Opportunity to Appear in Upcoming Film

Famed filmmaker JJ Abrams revealed in a new video, while on set in Abu Dhabi, that he will give one fan and a guest an opportunity to appear in a scene of the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 7" movie. Fans can enter the competition by donating a minimum of $10 towards charity with UNICEF.

Abrams said the two lucky people would meet the cast and crew of the popular sci-fi franchise as members of the director's VIP guests. In addition, winners will receive further star treatment since flights and hotel stays will be paid for for the "Star Wars" devotees in what is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Star Wars fans.

According to Abrams, "Star Wars: Force for Change" is a newly created campaign that joined forces with UNICEF because they are both "dedicated to finding creative solutions to some of the world's biggest problems."

"Star Wars: Force for Change" wants to help children and families in need all over the world by donating transportable, solar-powered learning kits to kids in Uganda, Burundi and China to ensure every child in the world has access to relevant, quality learning.

In addition, the "Star Wars: Force for Change" initiative wants to allow parents in Zambia to receive text messages via cellphone to get baby medical test results from hospitals.

Furthermore, the campaign also wants to provide mobile phones to people living in the Philippines, South Sudan and Uganda, in order to help kids connect with their family members in case of an emergency.

In other Star Wars news, Abrams wrote an inspirational letter to the cast and crew regarding the upcoming film.

"Dearest Cast and Crew, What an honor it is to work beside all of you, on Star Wars Ep VII. I can't thank you enough, for all work past and future. Let's take good care of not just ourselves, but of each other. Amazing, but true: the world awaits this film. Let's give 'em something GREAT. xo JJ."

"Star Wars Episode 7" is set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2015.
