Star Trek 'Into Darkness' Release Date, Trailer / 'Into Darkness' Hits Theaters A Day Earlier [VIDEO]
Star Trek fans are prospering from recent news that "Into Darkness" is being released a day earlier than originally planned. Paramount announced the second movie in the revamped Star Trek franchise would be playing in theaters Thursday, May 16 instead of Friday, May 17.
That means Trekkies everywhere will get to see Captain Kirk, Spock and the rest of the intergalactic hero squad 24 hours sooner.
The hype surrounding the sequel surprised Paramount, prompting the date change. Imax sneak peak screenings start May 15, so Paramount obviously wanted to keep the moment and release "Into Darkness" public the day after.
Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk, in Star Trek "Into Darkness" spoke about how the movie, though set far into the future, tackles issues human beings have to deal with today.
"This film is about earthbound terror," Pine said. "It's about terrorism, about issues we as human beings in 2013 deal with every day, about the exploitation of fear to take advantage of a population, about physical violence and destruction but also psychological manipulation. John Harrison is a terrorist in the mold of those we've become accustomed to in this day and age."
Zachary Quinto, who stars as Spock [dead ringer for Leonard Nimoy] can't stop raving about the special effects.
"It's visual, it's so stunning," he told Access. "The visual effects of this movie -- for me -- are really unparalleled. ... But it's always anchored. It's always anchored in connection and emotion and relationships and character and it's a special blend and I think [J.J.] does it better than just about anybody."
