South Park Stick of Truth Release Date on PC, Xbox One, PS3 Rumors: Co-Creator Matt Stone Hints at Possible Sequel
South Park co-founder Matt Stone revealed in a recent interview regarding the possibility of making another video game with fellow co-creator Trey Parker - a sequel to Stick of Truth on the PC, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4. The original had an extra year of development than scheduled, so fans should not expect a release date for the sequel anytime soon in 2014, and the creators are waiting to see how well received the original ends up being before finalizing any other plans.
"We'll see how it's received," said Stone to IGN prior to the launch of his popular RPG The Stick of Truth game. "This was a hellacious undertaking - much more than when we signed up for it. Never say never. I would do it again, in some fashion. I think that video games are really interesting."
Stone also discussed how important it was for him and Parker to be involved in the game's creation which is completely different from the earlier South Park games in the late 1990's and early 2000's games, when they would just license their property out and not be directly involved in the production.
"I think we got into it casually. [We said], 'Oh that'd be cool to do a video game.' Visually, technical stuff...we can figure that out," said Stone to IGN in a recent interview.
Stone also reveals what he learned from being involved in the game's creation.
"[But] you sit and watch South park [on TV] a certain way... [and] a game is consumed a certain way. It engages different parts of your brain. The natural rhythms of comedy that we know pretty well from the TV comedy universe, they're different from a game. And they have to be different, and you can't resist it. You have to go, 'Yeah, it's gonna be different' instead of being a joke. It's gonna be a tool that you use that's gonna be funny when you use it. I would start differently now if we started again," said Stone to IGN.
Stone also discuss why he and Parker did not release the game at its original release date in March 2013 and how the extra year of development helped with the creation of the game.
"There was definitely a big learning curve for Trey and I," said Stone to IGN. "We made a lot of mistakes and assumptions."
