Sony Z2 Compact Release Date, Specs Rumors: Processor and Display Size Info

The Sony Xperia Z2 was just released in April and the Japanese company has already finished its work on creating a smaller brother for the flagship phone. The Xperia A2 was released in Japan only recently and it is still uncertain when it will make its debut in other countries.

The phone may be called the A2 in Japan but in other countries, the A2 comes by the name of Z2 Compact.

Sony's Z2 Compact, spec-wise, puts it in direct competition with the rest of the mini versions of smartphones, like the HTC One Mini 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. The One Mini 2 is already out on the market while the Galaxy S5 Mini and the Z2 Compact are still prepping for its debut on the global market.

Most other tech giants have a habit of releasing new versions of their phones on a yearly basis. Sony has a different approach and releases new hardware every six months. With the recent release of the Z2, it is speculated that it won't be long before the Compact version of the Z2 arrives on the market.

Being a mini version of a bigger phone, it is expected that the screen size would be smaller, but in the case of the Z2 Compact, the resolution became smaller alongside the screen size. The Z2 Compact will be sporting a 5-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution. This is lower than the Z2's 1920 x 1080 pixel screen, but this is expected of a compact version.

Spec-wise, the Z2 Compact follows closely behind its bigger brother with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor against the Z2's Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor. The Compact has a 2GB RAM while the Z2 has a 3GB RAM.

The specs of the phone are phenomenal for a compact version which makes it a worthy opponent for the upcoming Galaxy S5 Mini.
