Sony Xperia Z3 Review, Specs: New Device Comes With Sony PS4 Remote Play Compatibility Feature

Within a span of just six months from the release of its successful smartphone Xperia Z2, Sony has released its successor Sony Xperia Z3. The latest device cannot be called an update of Xperia Z2, but it certainly offers some improvements on some of the aspects.

Sony released the Xperia Z3 together with its tablet and mini-phone, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and the Xperia Z3 Compact, respectively. The latest smartphone is available in five colors, white, black, copper-gold and silver-green. Compared to the Xperia Z2, its successor has a somewhat smaller profile, a superior camera, in addition to Sony PS4 Remote Play compatibility.

In addition to being an improvement, users of Xperia Z2 actually find very little or no reason at all to switch to the Xperia Z3, barring the fact that the latter come with the PS4 Remote Play compatibility - a feature that is absent in the Z2. This may possibly be a disturbing fact for Sony, which may possibly release a Z4 in another six months, leaving the Xperia Z3 in the dust.

In terms of design, the Xperia Z3 is slightly slimmer compared to its predecessor, but the millimeter shave off of the thickness may or may not be a major impact for users. However, the users may possibly feel the difference. Though the bezels at the top and bottom still look a somewhat large, the Xperia Z3 definitely has feel as well as appearance of a premium phone.

As far as the specs are concerned, basically the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z2 are not very different. Both the devices sport the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, but the processor of Z2 is clocked a little higher compared to the Z2. The Z3 has a 2.5GHz processor, while the Z2 had a 2.3GHz. In addition, both the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3 also sport the same 3GB RAM.

All said and done, the Xperia Z3 is indeed a somewhat better smartphone compared to the successful Xperia Z2, but people already using the Z2 should see not reason to update their device, unless they are interested in the PS4 Remote Play compatibility feature of Z3.
