Sony Xperia Series Problems with Android 4.4.2 Update; Battery Problems [HOT FIXES]
The Android 4.4.2 update for the Sony Xperia product series has encountered problems with battery drain, slow performance, and even overheating. Fortunately, there are workarounds and quick fixes available for the various problems present with the 4.4.2 update on Xperia devices.
Users can also wait for the latest Android 4.4.4 Kitkat update where those problems are resolved, but that may not be currently available on their device.
It is confirmed that the 4.4.2 update for Xperia devices have poor battery life due to the previous Google Play Services version 4.4.52. In order to prevent this, users can update the version of Google Play by enabling auto-sync and auto-updating of the Play Store.
Some users report the phone to be overheating when running high-end gaming applications or when using certain camera modes for extended periods of time. A way to fix this problem is to update all apps, services as well as the firmware of the smartphone. Removing any accessories like cases and covers to let the heat vent out would also help prevent overheating.
Not using the device for gaming and other processor intensive tasks when it is charging might also prevent overheating, as charging generates battery heat and may contribute to the overall temperature of the device.
As for the slow performance of the phone, this might be attributed to various factors such as malware, low internal storage space, or having too many apps running. Remedies would include deleting unnecessary apps from the internal memory, or making sure that any unused apps are fully closed.
Deleting any unnecessary widgets might also help with improving the speed. If all else fails, a factory reset of the device might be necessary (after making a back-up of all important files).
