Sony’s PlayStation 4 Outsells Microsoft’s Xbox One More Than Two-Fold in Q1 2015
As far as console sales are concerned, Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One usually run level. However, an impressive pipeline of future games may have possibly helped Sony to outdo its rival during the Q1 2015.
IB Times reports that Sony announced the conglomerate's Q1 2015 earnings on Thursday. According to the Japanese multinational, it sold 3 million PlayStation 4 consoles between April 1 and June 30 this year. Compared to the sales of PlayStation 4, Microsoft sold 1.4 million Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles during the same period.
According to the report, generally the two consoles are on par in terms of sales; hence, it is strange that the PlayStation 4 is pulling so far ahead all of a sudden.
Although Q1 2015 witnessed the release of several big games, they were mainly multiplatform games. Hence, the difference between the sales of the two consoles may possibly just come down to future game announcements made during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015. Microsoft did reveal some great games, especially 'Backwards Compatibility,' but Sony announced a whole host of games counting 'Shenmue 3,' a remake of 'Final Fantasy 7,' and 'The Last Guardian.'
Precisely speaking, the sales of PlayStation 4 consoles have been up from 2014, as Sony sold 2.7 million units in Q1 2014. In addition, Sony also announced that more than 25 million consoles have been sold altogether and predicted that the figure would be somewhere near 39 million by the end of March next year.
In general, Sony's game division was up a noteworthy amount in the Q1 2015 report, earning $157 million.
Meanwhile, Nintendo announced on Wednesday that it sold 10.01 million units of the Wii U. As of now, the total Xbox One sales are unofficial since Microsoft declines to release specific figures. Nevertheless, it is estimated in the region of 13 million units.
