Sony IFA 2015 Participation News: Images of Upcoming Xperia Z5 & Z5 Compact Leaked Online
Latest reports suggest that the Japanese multinational corporation Sony is planning to launch a new line of flagship Xperia Z smartphones in September.
According to a report in IB Times, for some time now, Sony has been following a pattern of launching two flagship smartphones every year. However, the company's marquee handset Xperia Z3+ (also called Xperia Z4, which was released earlier this year, received an unenthusiastic response from the customers as well as critics, as the device was a modest upgrade over its predecessor, the Xperia Z3.
While the general view is that Sony may drop the plans to introduce new premium smartphones during the second half of 2015, a recent report from Italy hints otherwise.
According to the report, Sony Italy has just confirmed via Twitter that the company will be holding a pre-IFA 2015 press briefing on Sept. 2. A few hours after this announcement, snapshots of the long-rumored Xperia Z5 as well as its smaller version, the Z5 Compact, were leaked online divulging the key features of the devices.
The leaked image shows two Sony smartphones, one having small display, while the other a phablet variant with an Apple iPhone 5S in the middle. It is interesting to note that images of both Sony devices show fingerprint scanner tutorial in addition to confirming the presence of fingerprint sensor on the right side of the phone's edge, the same spot that is used by Sony to place the trademark OmniBalance power button in all of its devices.
The image was posted by Twitter spy ViziLeaks, who claimed that the devices are made by Sony, said that it was not certain whether the models are from the Xperia Z5 series or not. However, considering the recent reports as well going by the Sony Xperia Z series device launch pattern in 2013 and 2014, it can be assumed that in all likelihood, they are the Xperia Z5 series phones. Moreover, it can be expected that the Japanese tech giant will unveil the devices next month, perhaps at the world global consumer electronics trade show IFA Berlin.
Sony would not like to miss the IFA Berlin because Samsung and Microsoft, which were earlier supposed to take part in IFA 2015 to unveil the Galaxy Note 5 and Lumia 950 series, respectively, are reportedly skipping the event. This will give Sony the opportunity to boast its flagship smartphones without being overshadowed by products from its rivals.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the Sony Xperia Z5 will sport a 5.5-inch screen and come with finger-print sensor. It is also likely to pack the new v2.1 Snapdragon 810 series Octa-core, a 21.5-megapixel front facing main camera with Sony's new proprietary IMX230 sensor and an 8-megapixel snapper on the front. The Xperia Z5 Compact, on the other hand, is reported to feature the same specs, except the screen size will be smaller.
