'Snake Salvation' Pastor's Son Gets Bit by Rattlesnake and Survives; He Says 'It Won't Stop Me from Doing What I Believe' (VIDEO)

Rattlesnake strikes again, this time biting the new snake-handling pastor of the Kentucky church that lost its former minister to a snake bite after a worship service earlier this year.

Pastor Cody Coots is recovering, without seeking medical attention, after a 6-foot-long rattlesnake bit him early this week. Coots is the son of the late Jamie Coots who was a pastor turned realty television star that died from a snake bite in February. The Coots family became famous for their bizarre form of worship while handling snakes.

The 21-year-old has been acting as lead pastor of the small Middlesboro church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, since his father's passing. Coots was attacked while cleaning out the snake's cage on Monday and like his father opted to not seek medical attention.

"I told the Lord that I wouldn't go to the hospital," Coots told the Lexington-Herald Leader.

Coots has been bitten at least five other times by cottonmouth snakes. This was his first rattle snake bite. Coots said that the snake bit him about 8 a.m. Monday, when he went to his dad's house to clean the snake cages. He told reporters he used a pole with a hook to pick up the reptiles and one of them slipped through the cage's open door and chomped down on his right index finger.

Coots told WYMT "I was really scared at first" adding, "but it won't stop me from doing what I believe."

TMZ reported that Coots wife Brittany said her husband's pain went away by Tuesday, calling the incident a "miracle," and declaring, "Jesus saved Cody. The Lord spared his life."

The family became famous on the reality show "Snake Salvation" for their unique style of worship, leading their congregation with poisonous snakes in hand. Coots is a fourth-generation snake handler and said he believes the Bible commands Christians to take up snakes in the Lord's name with the faith that God will heal them.
