"Sleepy Hollow" episode 9, "Sanctuary" aired last night with Capatin Irving giving Ichabod and Abbie a mission that they simply can not refuse. The mission actually ends up being a missing person's case, but little do they know it is not an ordinary person that they are looking for. "Sancutary" begins with a young women named Lena, who has just recently inherited a  very old house that has been in her familiy for centuries. Lena is over esctatic about the endless possibilities that emerge with renovating the new home, but her bodyguard warns her that the house just might be too run down.  Lena refuses to listen and runs in the home to explore. She opens a closet to find it full of tree roots. Lena trys tugging on them to see if they would break, but no luck. Just as she trys to pull her hand away, the roots slice her hand open and then completely entangle her. 

Back at the police department, Irving throws a file on Abbie's desk and explains that the material is for a missing person's case. The missing person is Lena, and she is not just the average townswomen. Lena is a author and philanthropist, but that is not where her significance comes to play. Her lineage goes all the way back to the founding fathers and just as she was captured a fax was sent over with the name, "Katrina". Naturally, Ichabod believes there is more to the story especially as his wife's name was just recieved via fax before her disappearance. Ichabod and Abbie go to work investigating Lena and her family, when Ichabod discovers that her family once owned the majority of the Eastern Seaboard. A man by the name of Fredericks keeps getting Ichabod's attention when he realizes that it is indeed Lachlan Fredericks, a influential landowner and charter member of the Continental Congress. Ichabod knows where Lena is. 

As Ichabod and Abbie arrive at Lena's estate, he ponders on the old memories of he and Katrina visiting the home. He tells Abbie that Lachlan was one of Washington's closest friends and that he was a supporter of the war. All slaves that lived on the estate were free, and earned a fair wage just as they all should. Ichabod wandered how such beauty could fall to ruins as it did. Abbie is the first to step foot in the house, and as she does immediatly sees a man pass through the hallway. She announces that it is the Sheriff's department and pulls her weapon as she rounds the corner. When she sees the man, he is not a threat at all as he looks like he has been mauled by an animal of sort. She trys to calls for an ambulance but has no signal. Abbie heads outside to see if there is any signal there when the estate's door slams in her face. Things in the house began to slam consistently as they realize that the estate is very much haunted. Ichabod tells Abbie that there is no escaping now, they must find Miss Lena and ensure her safety.

Ichabod and Abbie head downstairs to see if they could find any evidence of her being taken. Abbie opens up a closet door to find Lena completley encased in tree roots and scared out of her mind. As they both try to get Lena out of the branches, Ichabod cuts one of the roots and it begans to bleed as if the house was alive. Next thing you know, a man has just formed out of the roots in the ground  and is now heading quickly to the house from the front yard. As the three of them find a hidden passageway to escape, the 'root man' is stomping around the house. Just as they think they are about to be free, Ichabod is caught by the creature. Now the three of them are all seperated in the house. Abbie gets lost and somehow ends up in a room follwoing a ghost when she is transported to the time when the manor was still running. She is now in a room with a women that is giving birth, but the women is Katrina and she is begging for Ichabod. Abbie awakes from the flashback and finds Crane. She confesses to him that he has a child when he stops in his tracks cold as ice. He immediatley begs for answers,but Abbie has none. Suddenly, Lena has appeared but she is being held by the creature. "Sancutary" ends with Ichabod and Abbie killing the roots of the house and ensuring the safety of Lena. Yet, ichabod is now full of rage knowing that he has a child and someone did something to get rid of him. Next weeks episode, "Golem" will hold a multitude of surpises as Ichabod searches for his long lost son. Watch the trailer for "Golem" below.
