Avatar 2 Movie Latest News: Sigourney Weaver Returns for Sequels Despite Character Death
Three Avatar (2009)movie sequels have been confirmed and Sigourney Weaver is to be cast in each of them despite her character's death in the first film.
Among Weaver, other confirmed members of the cast include, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang. The three films are to be directed and shot by James Cameron, who's success in the film industry is almost unmatched.
Cameron had to say on Weaver's return, "Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made 'Aliens'."
He added, "We're good friends who've always worked well together, so it just feels right that she's coming back for the 'Avatar' sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she's playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films. We're both looking forward to this new creative challenge, the latest chapter in our long and continuing collaboration."
Potential roles for the Oscar-nominated actress might include some form of Augustine-Na'Vi hybrid who possess memories of the woman she once was. She may end up playing a role that embodies the Tree of Souls, or divine Eywa. Fans will have to wait until the anticipated "Avatar 2" draws closer to its debut.
Production on the sequels will begin late 2014, with the first film scheduled for release,in December 2016, the second, December 2017 and the third, December 2018.
