'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date, News: James Holmes Added As Guest Star In 'Sherlock' Fourth Season?

Inspired by "The Adventure of Silver Blaze" by Arthur Conan Doyle, "Sherlock" season 4 is expected to bring stories of romance, adventure and terror in their wake.

This was revealed by showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, who was recently in London, England with the "Sherlock" cast to film the upcoming season.

Among those who were spotted filming were actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington.

"Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street--and it always feels like coming home," said Gatiss and Moffat.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that actor James Holmes will be appearing in the first episode of season 4. He will play the role of a man who goes by the name of "Passenger."

While fans are excited to watch the next installment of the BBC series, they will have to wait a little bit more for the new episodes as the season 4 premiere has been pushed back until 2017.

According to Den of Geek, there is a possibility that the next season will premiere in January 2017.

Rumors have been going around that "Sherlock" season 4 will premiere in the United Kingdom in January 2017, specifically on New Year's Day, following season 2, season 3 and "The Abominable Bride."
