Shark Week 2014 Schedule, Date August 15 and Latest News

Discovery Channel's Shark Week began August 10 and is scheduled to end on August 16, so there's still time for shark fans to catch some of the exciting documentaries aired during the network's most popular television event.

This August 15, the network will feature a marathon of shark programs every hour including 'Vodoo Sharks' which will air at 5 pm, 'Alien Sharks' at 6 pm, 'Alien Sharks: Return to the Abyss' (rerun) at 7 pm, 'Lair of the Mega Shark #ExtraSharky' (rerun) at 8 pm, 'Zombie Sharks' at 9 pm, 'Spawn of Jaws: The Birth' at 10 pm, and 'Shark After Dark LIVE' at 11 pm. All times listed are based on Eastern Standard Time.

In 2013, there were only 11 programs, but this year the network wanted to satisfy the audience with 13, and even featured more types of sharks including Hammerhead, Zombie and Alien Sharks within them.

Shark Week recently celebrated its 27th anniversary with a live broadcast event, it was reported that the show lured in a record 3.6 million total viewers. The #SharkWeek also became a top trend on Twitter. According to reports the phenomenal event which featured 'Air Jaws: Fin of Fury' was watched by 3.3 million, while 'Shark of Darkness: Wrath of Submarine' was watched by 3.8 million viewers.

On the negative side, other reports state that Shares of Discovery Communications (DISCA), which owns several networks like the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, has flat lined recently.

According to its history, this pattern had been typical. In 2012, Discovery shares plummeted to 3.4% after Shark Week and in 2011, a 6% decrease was also confirmed.

Even though Discovery may be losing some of its support, it's looking like the network won't be dropping the popular television event anytime soon.
