Jimmy Fallon 'Late Night' on NBC Going to New Host Seth Meyers of SNL in 2014
Well Jay Leno is almost on his way out...again.
Everyone remembers Jay Leno's first exit, where Conan O'brien finally lands his dream gig as host of the "Tonight Show" only to have the rug pulled out from under his feet and NBC execs bringing Leno back on a few months later. O'brien handled the situation as professional as possible, but wondered how he had such a short leash after so many years at NBC as the follow up to Leno and with Conan having such a strong cult like fan following.
That was 2009 and here we are again with Leno relinquishing his seat on the "Tonight Show" except Jimmy Fallon will be taking over Leno's seat as his spot on 'Late Night' has been successful. Fallon is very likable and spontaneous, but time will tell if he can fill the prime time late night talk show spot.
So the "Late Night" spot is open again. It was Conan's for several years, then Fallons, so who will the new host be? Well you already know by the title of this article, but he is a face you see every weekend, but not someone most would peg to be in line for his own late night show.
This man is SNL's own, Seth Meyers. It has been confirmed that he will take over "Late Night" in 2014.
Meyers leaves "SNL" after 12 seasons, eight of which he served as head writer and seven of which he hosted "Weekend Update." This has been a prized segment of SNL for decades with previous Update hosts including, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, Norm Macdonald, Colin Quinn, Jimmy Fallon, David Spade, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
He will keep the same boss as Lorne Michaels will be the new executive producer of Meyers's "Late Night."
Other names through around as candidates were Howard Stern and Chelsea Handler, but Meyers always seemed a frontrunner with Lorne Michaels in charge.
The big question now is will the format change to be more like a "Weekend Update" or "Daily Show with Jon Stewart" or will he stick with the normal "Late Night" format.
