Seth Meyers New Host of 'Late Night' / Jimmy Fallon Takes Over 'The Tonight Show' / NBC Says Goodbye to Jay Leno [VIDEO]

It's a changing of the guards in the world of late night television. After NBC announced Jimmy Fallon would be taking over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, the network announced SNL head writer and "My Weekend Update" anchor Seth Meyers will be on after Fallon on Late Night.

Late Night with Seth Meyers. It has a nice ring to it. If he does half as well as Fallon did in his five years behind the desk, Meyers will be a knockout. NBC seems to think so.

"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," says Bob Greenblatt of NBC Entertainment. "His years at SNL's 'Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise."

Meyers, who will still be working with SNL and Late Night producer Lorne Michaels, is excited about the new job.

"I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car." Meyers added, "12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."

NBC has yet to confirm when exactly Meyers will begin his Late Night career. Fallon will take over The Tonight Show for Jay Leno in spring 2014.
