Selena Gomez the "Real Deal" in 'Rudderless' According to Director William H. Macy: "Come and Get It" Singer Stars in Sundance 2014 Musical Drama

Shameless actor William H. Macy is reportedly very "impressed" with Selena Gomez as an actress. Casting the young Disney starlet in his upcoming Sundance 2014 entry Rudderless, director Macy had nothing but praise for the "Come and Get It" singer.

The musical drama Rudderless is Macy's directorial debut at Sundance. Better known for his roles in front of the camera, Macy recently starred The Surrogate, which screened at the festival in 2012. Macy told Speakeasy he's really excited to stay behind the scenes for his upcoming feature film shot in Utah in January.

As for Rudderless, a short film about a father who starts a rock n' roll band after tragically losing his son, Macy says Gomez was a natural and perfectly casted for the role.

"She's the real deal. I was very impressed. She's a very talented young woman," he added. "Selena's in three scenes so she's in and out very quickly. She showed up at Charlton's [Pettus - the engineer and music co-writer] studio to record her song, and I said what do you think of it? She said, 'I haven't heard it yet.' I said, we didn't sing you the song? And we didn't. That woman listened to the song three times and then sang it beautifully."

The 2014 Sundance Film Festival begins January 16th and runs until the 26^th. The last day of the festival Gomez will be performing in Malaysia during her Stars Dance tour.
