Selena Gomez Fan Falls Victim to "Catfish" Hoax from Ex-Boyfriend Inviting Her for "Girls Weekend" Sleep Over
A 16-year old aspiring dancer is the latest victim in a "catfish" hoax. The mother and daughter recently opened up about how the young teen was tricked into thinking she had been contacted by Slow Down singer Selena Gomez and had even been invited to a sleep over at her house.
Viana Janae Jones explained her story to Radar Online recently saying that she received a message online from someone claiming to be the former Disney star.
"She reached out to me [back in January] and said she saw my dance videos online and wanted me to work on her tour as one of her backup dancers," the 16-year-old said.
Jones and the imposter were in contact for months and at one point even received a backstage pass to one of Gomez's concerts.
As Jones and her mother approached Gomez's home for a "girls weekend," the young dancer received an email from her ex-boyfriend admitting to pose as the "Slow Down" singer.
"The email said that I was pathetic for thinking I could be friends with Selena," Viana confessed to Radar Online.
Still, Jones rang the intercom outside the house trying to explain the situation. Gomez's grandmother Many Teefey came out of the home and was reportedly "very sweet and sympathetic" to the humiliated young girl.
Representatives of Gomez have confirmed the story.
