Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Dating: 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' Song About Justin Bieber Break Up?
Selena Gomez recently opened up about her latest song, "The Heart Wants What It Wants," saying that it's actually directed towards on-again-off-again ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
After splitting with Bieber two years ago, Gomez has been receiving criticism for consistently getting back together with him. Now, reports say that her split with Bieber in September is the last straw, as the "Who Says" singer reportedly got tired of her "toxic relationship" with the "Baby" singer.
And to cement her decision about the break-up, Gomez told Ryan Seacrest Thursday morning and explained that the emotional song was indeed about Justin, and also for girls trying to cope with their own break-ups .
"Everybody wants to form their own opinions anyway. I think the biggest problem I had this year -- even with [Justin] and on his side -- is identity," she said about her back-and-forth relationship.
On that note, Gomez replied to those who are criticizing her about her relationship with Bieber.
"I was trying to figure out what I'm doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that. When I didn't know, I just wanted to say, 'This is what I want, this is where I am in my professional life, things changed in my personal life, things changed in my heart -- everything.' And people just thought, 'Alright, this is what we think.'"
"And yeah, I made some decisions that weren't great as well, and so did he and that's why we went through all that to only make us better. And he has heard [the song] and he has seen the video, and it's something that I feel like girls need hear, and it's something I'm willing to share with people."
In the first few minutes of the song, the "Come & Get It" singer is heard having an emotional discussion about her relationship with Bieber.
"You make me feel crazy, you make me feel like it's my fault... I was in pain... I know him though, and I know his heart, and I know what he wouldn't do to hurt me," Gomez narrates.
"But I didn't realize that feeling so confident and feeling so great about myself and then it just be completely shattered by one thing-by something so stupid," she added
