‘Scandal’ Season 4 Episode 2 Spoilers: 'State of the Union' and Fitz’s Speech On Gun Control

Fans are looking forward to the continuation of 'Scandal' Season 4 when it returns on the air October 2, with its second episode entitled, "The State of the Union." Fans can expect the upcoming episode to feature Fitz's speech on gun control.

The season premiere episode opened up with a bang, as Olivia Pope was shown stepping back into the action.

The season began with Olivia and Jake's vacation on Zanzibar, and how it was cut short when Olivia received a letter regarding the death of Harrison. Olivia went back to Washington to pay tribute to her friend, two months after she left the place with Jake and Fitz.

Reports say that Olivia's return to Washington may not be as peaceful as she planned, since tension may be created between her and her former lover Fitz in the next episodes.

After the highly anticipated season premiere episode of the Shonda Rhimes' series, the second episode is said to be focused upon Fitz's speech on gun control, to which Cyrus will lend a hand.

In the episode, Cyrus will introduce a couple to assist Fitz on the topic. It is also said that the episode will feature Portia de Rossi, who would most likely be playing the role of RNC Chairwoman Lizzie Bear.

The official synopsis for the Season 4 Episode 2 reads:

"In order for Fitz to make the biggest impact with his State of the Union address on gun control, Cyrus sets out to recruit a power couple (Mary McCormack and Josh Randall) who are influential on the issue. Meanwhile, Mellie's personal struggle gets national attention."

Meanwhile, the fourth season of the show is going to feature a reinvention of certain things.

"It's so different! Everything is different. The writers and producers have blown our minds with the way they've reinvented everything, but they've managed to keep it at the same intensity level too," Bellamy Young (who played Mellie) told Glamour.

In addition to this, Tony Goldwyn said that the current season will be darker.

"Shonda Rhimes isn't repeating herself. If you think about where we ended the last season, of course it's different because everything's darker. We [the President and First Lady] have a very interesting relationship. It always has been, but it's gone to a new place," Goldwyn said.

The fourth season of 'Scandal' continues to air Thursday nights on ABC.
