The defending World Champion San Antonio Spurs will open their season at home against their SouthWest divisional foes the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night.

Legendary Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich talked about the possibility of his longtime superstar Tim Duncan possibly retiring following the upcoming 2014-2015 season.

"When he's not at practice, I'm going to be little depressed, I think," said Popovich, according to the Washington Post.

"It makes me sad. I'm going to miss it an awful lot...I'll think about it when it happens and it'll be tough, but until then I'm not going to start being unhappy now."

San Antonio General Manager R.C. Buford revealed what he believes his team must do in order to win back-to-back titles in the 'Lone Star State'.

"I think we gotta be healthy, that's a first. I know our guys are going to come compete. There's a lot of very good teams, and you have to be playing well in the playoffs and have to be healthy, then we'll take our shot and see what happens," said Buford, according to the Epoch Times.

"We know there will be a time and a day when Tim [Duncan] says I'm done, we're glad it wasn't now, he's playing at such a level that he feels good and he plays competitive, and he's not going to put himself in a position where he doesn't play well. The first guy in July in the gym was Tim, and it's been that way for the last 18 years. I know Pop was talking to him on the first day of practice, 'you sure you want to go through with this,' same dumb drills they go through every year, and he's excited to be there. He wants to play, and I hope he continues for a very long time."

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are looking to spoil the Spurs' pre-game ceremony by handing San Antonio their first loss of the season on Opening Night.

Dallas superstar Dirk Nowitzki recently reflected on the news surrounding his former teammate Steve Nash, who recently announced that he will most likely miss the entire season due to a nagging back injury.

"I texted him actually that I was proud of him and I was proud to be his teammate. We had an unbelievable run. I told him that if you would have told me a 6-foot white guy from Canada was going to be back-to-back MVPs, I would have said you're absolutely nuts. He had an unbelievable ride," said Nowitzki to ESPN Dallas on Sunday.

"To me, he was one of the fiercest competitors I know. He was little, but he didn't take anything from nobody. He always wanted to win in practice and always got better. He was a great teammate and a great friend, and I was sad to see him go out that way."
