San Antonio Spurs NBA Trade 2015 News: Franchise Gets Busy, Sets Stage for Aldridge Signing

Ever since the LaMarcus Aldridge to the San Antonio Spurs rumor mill got going, everyone knew the Spurs would have to get busy, and even more importantly, creative in order to free up cap space, while also keeping integral parts of their team to lure the Portland Trail Blazers big man to Texas. On the very first day of free agency, the Spurs got the ball rolling agreeing to a deal with Danny Green, and trading Tiago Splitter to the Atlanta Hawks.

After agreeing to a deal with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs have reportedly also agreed to a four-year $45 million deal with Green. The figure is a little lower than market value for the defensive three-point specialist, with Khris Middleton and DeMarre Carroll reportedly getting $14 and $15 million per year, respectively.

The details of Splitter's trade the Hawks still have to be worked out, but the move is expected to clear $8.5 million in cap space, which puts the Spurs in a better position to try and make room for the possible signing of Aldridge.

Zach Lowe of Grantland points out that if the Spurs can convince Tim Duncan to come back for a discount of $6 million a year, and Manu Ginobili takes the room exception of something in the neighborhood of $2.8 million, the Spurs would almost have the necessary cap space to sign Aldridge, especially of the cap gets the projected small bump from $67 to $69 million that Ken Berger of CBS Sports recently reported.

There have been multiple reports that Aldridge came away "impressed" by the Spurs' presentation when team representatives met with him Wednesday, while Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports reports that the sweet shooting big wants to wait until he gets his other meetings done before making a decision.
